Plain cue text and timings are preserved. Styling, positioning, comments and metadata are not carried into the result.

How to use the result

Paste subtitle text or choose a local file. The tool parses cue timestamps and text in this browser. Conversion keeps plain text and timings; it discards styling, positioning and metadata. Save a copy of the source before replacing an original export.

The checker defaults to Netflix’s English USA adult SDH limits of 42 characters per line and 20 characters per second, with at most two lines. BBC guidance recommends around 160 to 180 words per minute and treats layout in relation to the delivery format. Its teletext character limit is not a universal limit for web video.

Characters include spaces and punctuation but exclude line-break characters in the speed calculation. The tool counts Unicode code points. Check the actual player too, because visual width and reading difficulty are not determined by a character count alone.
