When Microsoft Word Transcribe is the better fit
A subscriber whose review and writing already happen in Word. Speaker-separated transcripts, recording playback and insertion into Word documents. These capabilities can reduce work around transcription even if a local draft would also be possible.
Word keeps the transcript close to an established writing and review environment. MurmurScribe exports DOCX but does not reproduce Word’s connected audio and collaboration controls.
When local transcription makes sense
MurmurScribe needs no subscription and exports DOCX. Word is better integrated for shared document workflows, but its transcription stores recordings in OneDrive. The local app downloads model files before inference and stores work only in the browser when storage is available. Export important results so they do not depend on a single browser profile.
A fair sample test
Try the workflow from recording to a reviewed paragraph inside the document you need to produce. Check speaker corrections and whether sharing the document also requires sharing the audio.
Use the same authorized source recording for the comparison. Include difficult passages rather than choosing only a clean introduction. Review names, negations and overlapping speech against the audio. A fast draft is useful only if the remaining correction effort suits the job.

Confirm the subscription and uploaded-audio allowance attached to your account. Recording, uploading and ordinary dictation are distinct Word features.
